The brief
A historic Grade-II listed property — built 136 years ago with the backing of Florence Nightingale — sits on eleven acres surrounded by sea and golf course.

The design
The proposal converts the main building and annexe into 68 apartments and adds a new 38-bedroom convalescent home in the grounds, recycling demolished heritage material into the new fabric.
Details
An intentionally lower roofline relates new to old, while passive solar strategies — orientation, thermal mass, daylight and insulation — make the most of the southern aspect.
