The brief
BM Plaza reinterprets Shanghai's historic buildings as 'layers of eras' juxtaposed over a complex contemporary mixed-use programme of retail, food and beverage and cinema.

The design
The master plan treats the heritage structures as delicate remnants of history, book-ending new spaces between them; a consistent vocabulary of stone, glass and brick blends old and new.

Details
Above the historic base, the towers rise purely as today's Shanghai — a modern urbanscape rooted in a strong historic background, unified by a faceted roof trellis inspired by Chinese modular origami.
